When people think of Catalonia, their minds immediately wonder to the cosmopolitan beach city of Barcelona. As much as I also love Barcelona, having been many times, my true love lies with the charming city of Valencia. Unassuming and understated. A juxtaposition of pristine pink architecture and gritty wall paint. The place that inspired my ongoing romance with travel and for that, I write this love letter to you. My Valencia.
So, you chose the winter season to visit Hanoi? Maybe you didn’t read the weather forecast, or maybe you’re just a sadist. Whichever it is, you’ll find here my tips for visiting Hanoi in winter. Despite my disdain for grey weather, it does allow you to move about the city comfortably without feeling like you need air conditioning on you constantly. Hanoi is a bustling and fun city no matter the weather, there will always be plenty to do and see.
2018 was a very different kind of animal. It was the year that marked some of the biggest walls in my life breaking down and although I can’t quite place the exact time, it also marked the moment I suddenly became happier in myself. *Flash back to Autumn 2016* I’m in my bedroom in the […]
I’ve always loved and respected the wonders of skin care. Ever since turning 13, like most teenagers, my skin became a constant problem all the way up into my early 20’s. By now you may have heard of the 10 step Korean skincare routine. I felt living in Hanoi made my skin a little dull, so in pursuit of that ‘Glass skin’ look, I’d seen on so many beauty K Pop artists I decided to try the 10 steps out. After researching the ingredients, I realised I could still use my Western products and just fill in the gaps where needed. I’ve been sticking to this routine for a month now and the results are pretty amazing.
Ninh Binh is one of my favourite places to visit in Northern Vietnam. I’m completely in love with it’s unique landscape of limestone cliffs rising from surrounding rice fields that seem to go on forever. After having been 4 times now, I thought it be appropriate to create a quick whiz of a 24 hr itinerary, picking the best bits to do in one day.
Hanoi is full of independent businesses and hidden finds that you only seem to stumble upon through word of mouth. My post covers a few of the gems I’ve found this Autumn, watch this space for more.
So, you’ve arrived in Hanoi and you only have a few days to explore? It’s true that tourist attractions are popular for good reason, but Hanoi has so much more to offer than what you’ll find on the typical old quarter backpacker route. Last weekend a friend came to visit me and it got me […]
Finally feeling settled in Hanoi, I thought it would be a good idea to document one of my weeks to give a realistic view of what teaching English out here is like and the unpredictable hustle and bustle in between. I try to stick to a routine but I’m learning that every week a curve […]
Ever since July when I booked my trip back to the UK for my cousins wedding, I couldn’t stop myself from telling people how excited I was for my detour trip to the ‘wonderful wonderful’ Copenhagen. One friend joked with me “you’re moving to Vietnam but you’re excited for 2 days in Copenhagen?” with a […]
Summer has passed and a new school term has begun in Hanoi for us foreign English teachers. I can’t quite believe how fast either. After teaching last term, I enjoyed a short holiday on the tranquil Phu Quoc Island and then returned to the UK to see the family and friends I’d missed so much! […]
